Minimonkey Baby Sling Cot Extender
The baby sling can also be used as a hammock in the playpen. Gently rocking the hammock to-and-fro will put baby to sleep. Also helpful for babies with colic. The sling can also be used in larger playpens - in this case it should be hung diagonally in a corner.

Below you'll find the tips for using the minimonkey baby sling as a hammock in the playpen/cot

  1. Using the sling in a large playpen
  2. 1st use of the hammock with an older baby
  3. Positioning baby in the sling/hammock
  4. What to do if baby is agitated or cries in the sling
  5. How long can baby stay in the hammock?
  6. Make sure baby is warm enough!

1. Using the sling in a large playpen

If your playpen is too big to install the hammock between the two sides you can instead position it in one of the corners
more

2. 1st use of the hammock with an older baby

If your baby is older than 7 or 8 weeks and in the hammock for the first time, it's possible that he won't like either the hammock or the banana position. In this case wait until he's old enough for the kangaroo position - success guaranteed!

3. Positioning baby in the sling/hammock

If you're finding it difficult to lay baby in the already-installed hammock, you may find it easier to first lay the sling in the playpen, spread it open, lay baby inside and then shut the clasp as last.

4. What to do if baby is agitated or cries in the sling

If baby is agitated or cries and is not hungry, try calming him by giving a pacifier or your pinky and/or gently rocking the hammock at the same time. The swaying movement often helps calm the baby. If baby is crying the first time you put him in the sling it's possible he needs more time to get used to it. Don't give up but take the time necessary so you can both get used to the sling. If after a few minutes baby still isn't settling, try another time when baby is in a good mood.

5. How long can baby stay in the hammock?

Baby can stay in the hammock until he's ready to get out

6. Make sure baby is warm enough!

Make sure baby is warm enough. A hammock is not a mattress and doesn't store heat. This makes it nice and cool in summer and a bit cold in the winter. NEVER place a mattress or pillow in the hammock.
